Timber Cycle Shelter FAQ's
(Includes waiting and buggy shelters also)
What materials are your shelters made from?
The timber shelters are constructed from a choice of either western red cedar wood, modified timber or treated softwood. The roof can be constructed from a choice of cedar shingle, sedum matting grass roof, slate roof and tile effect felt roof.
How do I know which timber to choose?
It really depends what type of wood finish you would like. Western red cedar wood offers:
• Durability, stability and warmth through its natural qualities
• Rich grain and natural vibrant colours
• Natural oils that act as preservatives to help the wood resist insects and decay
• A safe non-toxic product
• A distinctive attractive aroma
• A natural change in colour from dark chocolate to silver grey as the timber weathers
• Smooth finish so they can be used safely by children and adults alike
Painted modified or treated timber gives:
• A range of colours that can be matched to your existing environment
• A 100% non-toxic product which makes it safe to use in all locations
• A dimensionally stable and extremely durable structure where treatment for the wood is not required
• A fully recyclable product
• Smooth finish so they can be used safely by children and adults alike
Which shelter design is best for me?
We have designed four timber shelters which include The Jay Shelter, The Jay Shelter With Back, The Heston Shelter and The Woodhow Shelter. Each shelter offers something different in the way it has been designed to give you a shelter which best fits into your environment.
Do we need a hard stand for our shelter?
Yes we can only fix a timber shelter to a hard stand. A timber shelter has hidden steel fixings which allows us to securely bolt the shelters to the ground. You may already have a hard stand which the shelter can be fixed to. If not, we will be happy to quote to do this work for you.
Why do you need to know the location of where I want to install the shelter when I ask for an estimate?
We always ask for an address as this helps us to price for you more accurately.
Do you offer supply only?
We are unable to provide a supply only service.
What is your lead time?
As we manufacture our products, our usual lead times are three to six weeks. The school summer holidays are our busiest period but we will always endeavour to get your canopy installed at a time most suitable for you.
Can you advise on routes to funding?
The funding section on our website has a list of funding opportunities.
Do you use FSC accredited timber?
Yes, the timber we use is obtained from a local FSC accredited timber merchant.
Can a shelter be moved after installation?
Yes, the relocation would be charged at an installation only price, but it is possible to move our products to a different location.
Does the price include installation?
Yes. The price we quote you includes installation.
What colour can I have my shelter?
If you choose to have the shelter constructed from modified or treated timber it can be painted in any RAL colour. View our RAL colour and finishes chart.
Will I be getting value for money?
Our shelters are unique in design and offer excellent value for your money. Using the best materials available, we offer quality assurance on the shelter and workmanship.
How much disruption will you cause during the installation of the shelter?
You will hardly even know we are there. We aim to make minimum to disruption to your site on the day of the installation; the area where we are working will be fenced off and we will always leave the site clean and tidy upon completion.
Are your workforce CRB checked?

Does the shelter have any other uses?
The shelters can be used as cycle, waiting and or buggy shelters which can all be used in a variety of applications.
The surface where we would like a shelter fixed to is uneven; can we get round this?
