Product: The Ullswater Free Standing Canopy

                and The Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy

Size: Various

Chadwell Primary School needed an outside covered area for the pupils at their school.  The client was unsure of the exact type and size of canopy required but after completing a full site survey, Able Canopies were able to advise them on the size and design that would best suit their needs. They then produced a quotation that the client was happy to go ahead with. On being awarded the contract Able were faced with a number of challenges including;

• Planning – The canopy required planning permission from the council.

• Time frame – Installing the canopy during school holidays, thereby ensuring completion prior to the new school term.

• Additional work –Work carried out by other contractors at the same time meant that some manoeuvring had to be negotiated.

Able Canopies’ surveyor assessed all the options and decided to install two wall mounted canopies, linking them to a free standing canopy utilising a box gutter rainwater system which would provide optimum weatherproof coverage for the outdoor area.

The two systems chosen were a Coniston Wall Mounted canopy, constructed from aluminium and uPVC with a 40mm multi-wall polycarbonate roof and an Ullswater Free-Standing canopy, constructed from steel with a 35mm polycarbonate roof. The complete installation covered an area of 234m².

Able Canopies were required to construct the installation during the school holidays. In this time they had to get the order manufactured, powder coated and delivered to site, during which time all relevant health & safety issues needed to be considered along with planning approval.

As previously stated, the challenges faced with the canopy included awaiting planning permission for the installation, ensuring that the canopy was completed before the end of the school holidays and working around other contractors ensuring minimal disruption to their work.
