Tensile Fabric Structures FAQ's
Are they waterproof?
Yes our Tensile Fabric Structures are completely waterproof structures perfect for outdoor classrooms, play areas, walkways, alfresco dining, waiting areas and for creating covered car parking. They will not absorb moisture and are designed to perform well in all weather conditions.
What colours can I choose for the fabric?
The fabric is available in 40 colours ensuring there is a colour option for everyone.
Can we take them down at the end of the day?
Our fabric structures are permanent structures. They are designed specifically to be left outdoors 365 days a year and will not need re-tensioning.
Why do the structures not need re-tensioning?
The structures do not need re-tensioning as they are installed at high tension. Stainless steel cables are used around the edge of the structure to prevent sagging.
Can we attach the fabric to our own installed posts?
The posts are professionally engineered and so we cannot normally attach the fabric to existing posts.
Do they give us much protection from the sun?
During manufacture, a thick surface coating is put over the material which gives approximately 99% UV protection.
What is the typical price of a tensile fabric structure?
All our products are bespoke so please call us to discuss your requirements. You can also take advantage of our free site survey where one of our experienced surveyors can discuss with you your requirements. Please call us on 0800 389 9072.
Do you offer supply only?
We are unable to provide a supply only service as all our products come with an extensive guarantee. These structures are to be installed by our trained teams of specialist installers only.
How long does it take to install the tensile structure?
The installation can take from one to two days depending on the size of the structure.
How are the tensile structures installed?
The posts are specially engineered to carry the weight of the fabric. Concrete is first poured into newly excavated holes. Once this has set the posts can be bolted to a mesh layer which is put on top of the concrete. Once the posts are installed, the waterproof fabric can then be attached to the posts and tensioned using stainless steel cables and tensioned plates. This makes them an extremely strong commercial system.
What is your lead time?
As we manufacture our products, our usual lead times are six to eight weeks. The school summer holidays are our busiest period but we will always endeavour to get your canopy installed at a time most suitable for you.
Will we need planning consent?
You need to contact your local council to find out if you require planning permission or building regulations. We do offer help with planning. Please contact us for your free planning guide.
Have you installed in my area?
We have installed thousands of shade sails, canopies and shelters across the UK. To see installations in your area visit our online gallery.

Do you have any measures to prevent people climbing the posts?
We can supply and install anti climb cones which are steel strips which point downwards preventing people climbing the posts. View Able Canopies Anti Climb Cones.
