Able Canopies Supports Local Reading Initiative

Able Canopies are supporting Tendring District Council (TDC) in helping them raise awareness to encourage people to donate their pre-loved children’s books and help over 4,000 children with their educational journey.

STORYTELLING TENT AT S&B FESTTendring District Council previously collected books in the summer, just from TDC staff and Essex Libraries to give away at a storytelling tent at the Sea and Beach Festival, held in July 2015. Because it was such a success TDC wondered what they could do next and came up with the idea to collect 4,000 pre-loved children’s books to give away at Christmas.

TDC are currently in the progress of collecting the pre-loved books – so far they have collected 1224 books and would need all donations by 11th December. Donations can be made at Clacton Town Hall or any of TDC’s sports and leisure centres across the district.

Mark Wood, Director of Able Canopies said, “With our Head Office based in Clacton, we are always pleased to support local initiatives that raise aspirations and get children reading and as schools are a major customer for us, hopefully they will be doing so underneath one of our canopy or shelter products!”
