The traditional sports days did not go ahead as planned last year due to the schools being shut. Although there is light at the end of the tunnel, this year’s traditional sports events might not go as previous events have. So, here are some ideas on how you can be inclusive if there are still restrictions in place.
1. Spread Out Sport Days
One of the biggest problems will be having all the parents from your school on the school grounds at the same time. Therefore, one of the best options would be to spread out the sports events. You could have events happen in the morning and afternoon. Or you could change your schedule so that year groups have different days for their sports events.
This allows for fewer parents to be present at the same time.
2. Live Video Footage
Another option is to have live video footage of the sports day. With modern technology, this could be easily achieved. You can invite parents to specific feeds that showcase one class/year group. Or you could have live video footage of the whole event.
There are lots of options on how you can host the video footage and you can always have it recorded for parents to watch later again.
3. Recorded Video
Another option is to record everything and then upload it to a private channel that parents can watch. This is very inclusive as it will allow grandparents and other family members to watch the videos.
Recorded videos also mean that you can cut out times which don’t have any events and you can label all the events so children can see their name on the screen. You can also showcase results on the screen, making it feel very professional. There are free video editors that allow you to do this.
While restrictions could be lifted for this summer’s sports events, it might be good to plan for alternatives if this is not the case. So, how can you host a summer sport event that can keep the excitement for the children, the fun for the parents and not be a chore to organise. Above are three ideas.
