Top 5 Architect and Contractor Canopies: 2021

Top 5 Architect and Contractor Canopies: 2021

2021 was a very busy year at Able Canopies and we installed some really impressive structures that not only are we particularly proud of but make a big difference to the end users too.

We have therefore put a list together of our top five canopies that we installed for Architects and Contractors in 2021. We usually feature the biggest and most complex jobs; however, we’ve found that some of the simpler jobs can bring just as much joy and don’t always get the attention they deserve. Scroll down to see which projects made the cut and why.

Priory Hurworth House School, County Durham

Product Installed: Grange Junior Free Standing Canopy
Size: 11m x 4m
Upgrades:
Coloured Polycarbonate Roof Sheets

The canopy installed at Priory Hurworth House School in County Durham is a firm favourite of mine because of the fantastic colours that were chosen. We worked on this job for Richmond Contracts Projects Ltd. which was part of a larger project refurbishing their courtyard that leads to the school field. The finished canopy brightens up the outside area perfectly and provides shade and shelter all year round.

Beds Flooring Distributors, Bedfordshire

Product Installed: The Coniston Free Standing Canopy
Size: 6m x 5m
Upgrades:
Rear Posts

The Coniston wall mounted canopy we installed for Headlam Group, is the perfect example of how this canopy, although primarily a wall mounted canopy, can be manufactured as a free-standing canopy for clients that are looking for a shade and shelter structure away from their building. The canopy was installed for a flooring distribution warehouse and provides cover from the weather whilst staff are rolling and cutting carpets outside.

Trecco Bay Holiday Park, South Wales

Product Installed: Tarnhow Dome Free Standing Timber Canopy
Size: 11.3m x 9.7m
Upgrades:
None

We have installed various canopies for Parkdean Reports over the last few years, working with many different Architects, and we’ve enjoyed working with every single one of them. However, the canopy we installed at Trecco Bay stands out for me the most. I love that the clients chose a white stain on the timber; it adds a whole different dimension to the canopy and creates a striking focal point. We worked with NBDA Architects on this project, and the holiday park’s patrons now have a large covered outdoor area where they can enjoy their food, drinks and outdoor entertainment no matter the weather.

Aberfoyle Primary School, South Lanarkshire

Product Installed: Denver Timber Cycle Shelter
Size: 6.2m x 1.6m (Holds up to 12 bikes)
Upgrades:
None

Maybe I chose this one because the photos are great, who knows but either way, who doesn’t love a timber cycle shelter? Timber has transformed cycle shelters from a practical structure to a practical and stylish structure. Just look at this one we installed at Aberfoyle Primary School in South Lanarkshire Scotland for AKP Scotland Ltd. and Wardell Armstrong Architects. West Middlesex University Hospital, London

Product Installed: The Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy
Size: 11m x 4m – 5.5m
Upgrades:
Rear Posts | Polycarbonate Front and Side Panels

Marcon Construction were working on a project for West Middlesex Hospital in London and the project included a requirement for a canopy. Their visitors and patients were in need of cover from the weather when entering the main Accident and Emergency entrance and whilst queuing up outside. Even though the photos aren’t the best, you can still see the fantastic design of this canopy and what a difference it will make for the hospital’s visitors and patients, the side panels offer additional protection that will not only protect from the sun and rain but from the wind too.
