A Ride to Save a Life
On Sunday 22nd May 2011 staff at Able Canopies braved the strong winds on their bicycles to raise funds for the life saving Essex Air Ambulance.
This was the third annual Colne Valley Cycle Ride in aid of Essex Air Ambulance which saw over 200 cyclists take part in a 22 mile cycle ride around the picturesque Colne Valley, Essex.
Able Canopies went over their fundraising target of £200, raising £373 in total. The cycle ride started out at Earls Colne Business Park at the Essex Air Ambulance fund raising office and continued around the beautiful and very hilly Earls Colne.
Staff took around 3 hours to complete the course, excluding a quick stop off at the half way point to enjoy a few beverages. There was a small incident during the second half as one team member failed to break going down a hill and ending up in a pile by a tree. Luckily there were no broken bones and they were able to carry on and complete the race.
It was a great team effort by all who attended and although it was very challenging it was also an enjoyable experience.
Essex Air Ambulance is a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS); providing a free life-saving service for Essex and surrounding areas. Specialist Doctors and Ambulance Service Paramedics can be rushed to the scene of an incident with life-saving support equipment and the patient, following assessment, will be flown to an appropriate hospital. Unlike other NHS emergency services Essex Air Ambulance is a charity relying solely upon the generosity and goodwill of the people and businesses of Essex to remain operational and saving lives.
