Uses for a Canopy – Outdoor Gym

One of the many uses for a canopy that can often be forgotten about is an outdoor gym! It has been highlighted in the media in the recent years that a healthy lifestyle is extremely important and schools are one of the main sectors that are expected to make changes for the better if they haven’t already.

Many, if not all schools have made the change with their school meals so why not complete the package and encourage exercise by creating a covered outdoor gym that can be used all year round?

Outdoor gyms are particularly ideal for schools that do not have the space inside to create a gym and simply do not have the funding for an extension. The cost of a canopy is exceptionally smaller than the cost of a solid extension and having a gym outside can make it more accessible to pupils which in turn will encourage them to use it more.

Another benefit that an outside gym offers, is that pupils will not find the usual “smelly gym” smell that you would usually get inside a building. Having the gym outside under cover keeps it fresh all year round. It will also be kept cool as the canopy will create shade in the summer and covers the rain in the colder months, this saves on air conditioning costs.

Free standing canopies would be most suitable as an outdoor gym canopy however, if you are looking to create a large gym then big span canopies such as the Double Grange and the Hamilton will be perfect for the job!

White Spire School in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire had a Hamilton Big Span Canopy installed in their playground in September 2014. They had a selection of permanent gym equipment installed and wanted a canopy to shelter the equipment and protect pupils from the weather whilst using the gym equipment.
