The Unicorn School – Coniston Freestanding Canopy

In April 2026, we supplied and installed a 9m x 6m Coniston Freestanding Canopy at The Unicorn School in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.

The Unicorn School sought to maximise the use of their outdoor space by introducing a sheltered area that could be enjoyed throughout the year. With a limited timeframe in place, the school required a practical and cost-effective solution that would support both outdoor learning and play in all weather conditions. Following initial discussions, the proposed design evolved from a shade sail system to a more robust, year-round structure that would provide enhanced durability and long-term value.

After completing a detailed site assessment, Able Canopies recommended and installed a Coniston Freestanding Canopy. This UKCA-marked, aluminium structure is designed for longevity and requires minimal maintenance, making it ideal for busy educational environments. The finished canopy now offers reliable protection from rain, wind and UV rays, transforming a previously underused area into a versatile, all-weather space. Delivered on time and within budget, the installation supports pupil wellbeing while enabling the school to make full use of its outdoor facilities.
