Foundation Stage children say a big “thank you“ to the PTA for their fantastic new canopy.

The happy learning environment of Thorn Grove Primary School in Bishops Stortford has just got even better. Both pupils and staff are celebrating the installation of a brand new canopy to complement the school’s highly successful Foundation Stage outdoor area.

Designed, manufactured and fitted by school specialists Able Canopies, the durable structure enables the children of Thorn Grove Primary to enjoy the outdoors with UV protection from the sun and shelter from the rain.

Philippa Roy-Chowdhury, Head teacher at the 220 pupil primary school is delighted with the installation, as she explains;

“Foundation staff have created such an exciting environment for learning within the classroom and now the children have a space for outdoor learning opportunities too – whatever the weather! The covered area leads directly to the Foundation Stage playground. It looks fantastic and is a great space for the children to engage in learning.”

The Parents and Teachers Association worked hard to raise funds through various events, including discos, fairs, fashion evenings and a pop quiz. Philippa adds;

“The children were so excited; they even did their own sponsored ‘Wellie Walk’ to help raise money for the new canopy.”

The school is enthusiastic about providing a quality leaning environment and education for children in their primary years and now, with the canopy installation complete, they look forward to even more developments ahead. A brand new Pre-school is planned for the autumn and further fundraising is underway to convert an unused quadrangle into a new learning space.
